For the year’s final installment of “Our Favorite Importers,” we are beyond thrilled to welcome Juliette Pope, one of the New York wine scene’s most respected figures, to lead us through a tasting of producers from the pioneering importer Louis/Dressner Selections. Founded in 1988, LDS has had a long history working with some of Europe’s most respected artisanal producers. We welcome Juliette to tell the Dressner story, and pour some of our favorite wines from this amazing portfolio, paired with a special menu prepared by Chef Alex Tronstad.

Agave: In Flux
As the consumption of mezcal made from rare agaves in Oaxaca grows, some well-known species are facing dwindling populations and changes in microclimate, calling their future into question. Meanwhile, new hybrid species are developing at an unprecedented pace, and the exposure of agave traditions in other states across Mexico, both in and out of mezcal’s Denomination of Origin, brings with it new varieties and species to explore – and with them, new flavors to experience. We will dive into the shifting landscape of rare agave distillates and unpack some of the tragic threats and the thrilling possibilities of the category’s future, in six copitas.

Join us for a special seated wine tasting with Stefano Campaniello of Morra Gabriele, one of the brightest new stars of Barbaresco. Stefano, a former sommelier, produces a style of Nebbiolo that is lighter and more graceful than you might expect, with soaring floral aromatics and amazing energy. We are thrilled to welcome Stefano to Maxwell Alley for a tasting of his wines, served alongside some special snacks and bites from the kitchen.
